Lyman Orchards Press Release

Lyman Orchards to open Ben Franklin Corn Maze September 3

Middlefield, CT — —Lyman Orchards, a family-owned popular destination for over 275 years, has announced that September 3 is the opening day for its 2022 Ben Franklin Corn Maze. Fourth in a series of  "All American" History maze themes, this year’s Ben Franklin Corn Maze—situated on four sprawling acres—will spotlight American history and scientific discoveries. Particular emphasis will be on Ben Franklin and his revolutionary experiments with electricity. One dollar of each Corn Maze admission will be donated to support the American Cancer Society. Since 2000, the Lyman Orchards Corn Maze has raised nearly $700,000 for the organization. In addition, $.50 of each admission fee will be donated to the Connecticut Cancer Foundation, which has received nearly $37,000 from the Lyman Orchards Corn Maze since 2020.

"We’re excited about our 23rd season—and about our continuing partnership with the American Cancer Society and the Connecticut Cancer Foundation," states Lyman Orchards’ Executive Vice President John Lyman. "This year our theme is part of our All-American History series. We think our guests will enjoy getting to know Ben Franklin, gaining an appreciation for his inventions and wisdom, and learning the critical role he played in the creation of our country. The whole family will enjoy this year’s Corn Maze." "Lyman Orchards has been a longtime partner of the American Cancer Society, helping to raise funds each year through their annual Corn Maze," said Alexis Maliga, Director of Development, American Cancer Society in Connecticut. "These critical funds help the American Cancer Society attack all cancers in countless ways-funding and conducting breakthrough research, providing education, advocating for cancer patients and their families, and providing essential services throughout their cancer journey. Lyman Orchards is an amazing community partner, and we are grateful for their dedication in the fight against cancer."

The Lyman Orchards 2022 Ben Franklin Corn Maze opens Saturday, September 3 at 9:00am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Corn Maze will run through November 6. Hours are Monday–Friday, 1:00–5:30pm and weekends and holidays, 10:00am–5:30pm. The last Corn Maze entry for each day is 5:30pm.

The first 50 visitors who successfully navigate the Corn Maze on Opening Day will receive an official Lyman Orchards Kite and Skelton Key. In addition, visitors who find Corn Balls in the Corn Maze—bright yellow golf balls—in the maze will win prizes ranging from Apple Barrel Farm Market gift certificates to $100 cash. The ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 3 is part of Lyman Orchards Corn Maze Festival, which will feature many family-friendly activities, including Square Dancing demo and lessons, a Drumming Circle, horse-drawn hayrides and a Dutch Apple Pie jam-making demo.
